Understanding EME & Radio Communications
Some people are concerned about possible health effects from the Electromagnetic Energy (EME) generated by radio frequency technology. CSL is committed to addressing these concerns and places high importance on effective and responsible management of EME issues.
For more information about EME, how mobile networks and mobile phones operate, what the safety standards are for mobile phones and network infrastructure, and how CSL operates its networks responsibly in order to minimise community impacts, please download this document
The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) has reported no evidence of health hazards from mobile phones. There are two review papers, one addressing epidemiological evidence related to mobile phones and one reviewing evidence for the the full radio-frequency (RF) spectrum.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) issued a press release announcing publication of the INTERPHONE results for glioma and meningioma on May 2010. (http://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/pr/index.php). The result showed that 'An increased risk of brain cancer is not established from the data from Interphone.¡¦ The paper can be found on http://www.gsmworld.com/our-work/public-policy/epidemiology.htm
Also the WHO has issued an updated Fact sheet N¢X193 (May 2010) Electromagnetic fields and public health: mobile phones. The key fact also showed that ¡¥To date, no adverse health effects have been established for mobile phone use.¡¦ The fact sheet can be found on http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs193/en/index.html
